About Us
Hello, my name is Chris Gordon, and I own Gordons Custom Sawmilling, LLC. I am a
VOSB (Veteran Owned Small Business).
I have had a passion for hardwood lumber and woodworking my whole life. I have had several jobs dealing with lumber and woodworking throughout the years. When I was younger, I hung out with my great-grandfather. He was my role model growing up. He taught me lots of life lessons, hard work, good work ethics, and a passion for the beauty of wood. My great-grandfather was a master carpenter and built several homes in and around Manhattan and Wamego, KS. He would take me to the sawmill to pick out the boards to build cabinets, trim packages, doors, and shelving for all the houses he built. He built all of this from rough-sawn lumber in every house he constructed. My 1st trip to a sawmill was probably when I was 3 and I was hooked for life from that day forward.
I met my wife, Dani, in 2004 and together we were able to purchase my first sawmill. In the original business plan, I was going to log the timber, mill the boards, and then air and kiln dry the boards to build tables and furniture. I absolutely love to build anything and everything. We figured out early in this process, that there were just not enough hours in the day to accomplish everything I had planned to do. I didn’t have the time to produce lumber and build furniture. So, we decided then to narrow our focus to just producing high-quality premium hardwood lumber.
I have spent my whole life learning the rights and wrongs of lumber. Through lots of training classes, experiences, and lots of mentors, we have decided to corner this niche in the market in our area and only offer premium hardwood lumber. We are building this business from the ground up and plan to keep this a small mom-and-pop with son operation. My son, MaKaden, has been a crucial part of this business and with his help and many hardworking hours and late nights, we are very proud of where we are today. His ideas and willingness to jump in and help out have been a big part of this progress.
At this point in time, we have a TimberKing 2220 sawmill, a Baker edger, and a Nyle 200lm DH Kiln. We can mill logs that are 24’ long and 36” wide on the TimberKing mill. If it doesn’t fit on the sawmill, we also have an Alaskan Mill that will mill 60” wide, and the length is infinite. We can mill almost any tree that grows around this area and if we can’t we know someone who can. Our lumber store will be located in Delia, KS. We will be open to the public here soon. Looking forward to working with you in the future.
